“I am honored to lead AT&T external affairs in the state I love and call home,” Broberg said. “Not only does this role afford the opportunity to work with local leaders on issues impacting all Arizonans, it also provides the chance to encourage needed infrastructure and community investment in Arizona.”

Prior to joining AT&T in 2013, Broberg served in the White House as deputy associate director for communities at the Council on Environmental Quality and as senior advisor for congressional affairs for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Her career has spanned state, local and federal government affairs positions. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science and a master’s degree in liberal studies from Arizona State University and currently serves on the board for Jobs for Arizona Graduates, the American Heart Association Executive Committee, and the Business Board of Advisors for the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators. She resides in Phoenix with her husband Kevin.

AT&T invested more than $550 million in our Arizona wireless and wired networks during 2015-2017. These investments boost reliability, coverage, speed and overall performance for residents and businesses. They also improve critical services like FirstNet that support public safety and first responders.

FirstNet is a new nationwide communications platform dedicated to America’s public safety community. As we build, deploy and evolve FirstNet, we will build upon our current and planned investments in Arizona to help ensure public safety’s network delivers the coverage and cutting-edge capabilities first responders expect – today and for decades to come.

In 2017, AT&T made more than 400 wireless network upgrades in Arizona. These upgrades included adding new cell sites, boosting network capacity and expanding LTE coverage. Following the passage of recent state legislation, AT&T will continue its investment in Arizona with additional upgrades.

Happy Holidays!

Posted by Jerry Fuentes

We are closing out the year just the way we started it: connecting people to opportunity. From connecting the U.S. Army, to connecting AT&T employees to career pipelines, at its core, this is what all of us at AT&T do every day. I am so proud of what we have accomplished this year in Arizona, and as I look forward to 2018 I am excited for what is to come. But before we get to January, I want to wish all of you, your family and your friends a happy holiday season and a happy New Year!

Thank you,

Congratulations to Arizona’s Victoria Martin and Denise Lewallen!

Support is part of a $3.5 million contribution to Jobs for America’s Graduates and will help reach more Arizona youth at risk of dropping out of high school

JAGJobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) presented the National “Above and Beyond” award to Victoria Martin and Denise Lewallen for their extraordinary leadership and strong partnership with Jobs for Arizona’s Graduates. These outstanding employees were honored for the many events they have supported over the last few years, such as Legislative Day at the State Capitol, STEM/GIFT Technology Day, WOA Bot Mania Robotics Competition, Career Development Conference, Back to School Backpack Drive, Leadership Development Conference and Scholarship Overnight Lock-in. Please join me in congratulating these outstanding employees!

Jobs for Arizona's Graduates and AT&T are working together to help raise the high school graduation rate and support career paths for underserved students. Because of its success in keeping kids in school, Jobs for Arizona's Graduates was one of 24 state affiliates selected to share in $3.5 million from AT&T.

The JAG program equips students to overcome obstacles to a high school diploma or High School Equivalency Test. The program does this through mentoring, academic support, links to social services, and other interventions. Students are guided into post-secondary education, entry-level jobs with pathways to successful careers or the military.

Jobs for Arizona's Graduates will use the $140,000 to support local students.

“Helping students develop the skills they need to succeed in 21st century careers is a critical step to building the diverse workforce we need to power our company — and our country — for the future,” said AT&T State President Jerry Fuentes. “JAG has a track record of success, and this funding will allow them to provide even more students the opportunity to thrive.”

In 2016, JAG’s network of affiliates reported a 95% high school graduation rate, compared to the national graduation rate of 83% in 20151. Currently, the JAG model is offered in nearly 1,250 public high schools, community colleges, and alternative learning centers in 34 states.

In more than 3 decades of operation, JAG has helped more than 1.2 million young people stay in school through graduation, pursue post-secondary education and secure quality, entry-level jobs leading to career advancement opportunities. The JAG Graduating Class of 2016 achieved 84% successful outcomes, meaning students were enrolled in post-secondary education or were employed (or some combination of the two) for a full 12 months after they graduated from high school.

Since 2008, AT&T and the AT&T Foundation have provided more than $11.4 million in funding to JAG and its local affiliates. This support is part of AT&T Aspire, which helps provide access to education and the training people need to get and keep good jobs. Since 2008, AT&T has committed $400 million to help millions of students in all 50 states and around the world.

U.S. Army Chooses AT&T for Modernized Global Communications

Posted by AT&T Arizona Team

Army

With nearly 1 million users globally, the U.S. Army has chosen AT&T for its latest contract to unify and modernize their communications capabilities.

We’re providing the Army with a new way to think about connectivity. Our services will make it easier for Army personnel to connect, collaborate and share information in support of daily operations globally. These services include voice, video, chat, instant messaging, presence and screen sharing. Army mechanics overseas can share screens with experts at a home station to speed repairs. Commanders and their staffs can use live video links to collaborate across different locations or direct troop operations abroad.

Army personnel in the U.S. and abroad will have access to these services on demand from their desktops, laptops and approved mobile devices. The Army will not need to buy new equipment. The services are cloud-based, and we will manage them. We are also delivering them in classified and highly secure unclassified formats.

“We’re honored to deliver capabilities that complement our vision of a ‘Network of the Future’ for the Army,” said Kay Kapoor, president, AT&T Global Public Sector. “These services will help the heroes who defend our nation to connect, share and keep us safe.”

The U.S. Army’s modernization efforts align with Department of Defense strategies to maintain the military’s technological advantage through the use of commercial cloud services.

Don't Be One of the 5%

Posted by AT&T Arizona Team

cyberaware

Five percent of consumers in the U.S. text their passwords to their accounts (not a good idea) … 5% of consumers use consecutive letters or numbers for their passwords (you might as well text those passwords to the bad guys in the first place) … 5% of consumers provide their personal or financial info to an email sender without verifying who they are.

The good news is that most Americans know that these are things we should not be doing online if we want to protect ourselves. The challenge is that the crooks are getting smarter, making it harder for consumers to know what to do to protect themselves online. That’s why AT&T just launched att.com/CyberAware.

Bookmark — and regularly visit — this site to learn about the latest tips for protecting yourself and your family, and stay up to date on the latest threats. From ID theft, to malware to robocalls and other concerns, we’ve put the resources all in one place.

Join me this Veterans Day to Thank Our Heroes

Veterans Day is a day of reflection. Reflecting on our country’s past. Reflecting on where we are today. And, most importantly, reflecting on those who fought for our freedoms.

AT&T has a long history of supporting our military and First Responders. We’ve committed to hiring 20,000 veterans by the year 2020. We’re also using our talents to construct a public safety broadband network called FirstNet to connect our First Responders in new ways.

On Veterans Day and every day, we are thankful for our service members.

Join me this Veterans Day in thanking our heroes for their bravery and sacrifices.

Arizona to transform communications for public safety

Posted by AT&T Arizona Team

FirstNet and First Responders

The State of Arizona is opting into FirstNet. With this decision, FirstNet and AT&T will deliver a specialized wireless broadband network to Arizona's public safety community. This makes Arizona the 13th state or territory in the country to bring first responders advanced technologies that will help them save lives and protect communities.

"The State of Arizona is ready to work shoulder-to-shoulder with AT&T and FirstNet to finally deploy a true interoperable nationwide communications system for public safety. We have much work ahead of us, but with AT&T's open communication and commitment to excellence, the future for all first responders will be safer as will the lives of our citizens," said Col. Frank Milstead, director of the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Start the School Year Strong with the Khan Academy LearnStorm Challenge!

Posted by AT&T Arizona Team

Khan Academy Learn Storm

As students swap out their beach bags for backpacks, it can be a tough transition back to the classroom after summer break. Some studies show that a full month of learning may be lost during this short period away from school.

Share LearnStorm with your student's teacher

To help students get back in the groove of school, AT&T is teaming up with Khan Academy to help ensure that teachers and students have the tools needed to start the school year strong. Khan Academy’s LearnStorm is a free, 6-week online challenge from Sept. 12 to Oct. 20 that will help students build the skills and mindsets they’ll need for a successful year of learning.

LearnStorm is open to all learners in grades 3 through 12, with an enhanced experience for educators in accredited U.S. schools or homeschools who sign up their classes. Teachers or parents assign videos, exercises and educational articles to students. Students then complete the assignments on their computers or mobile devices to earn prizes individually, for their class and for their school!

Share LearnStorm with your student's teacher to get their classroom signed up today! You can also sign your child up for Khan Academy and have them complete the LearnStorm challenge on their own, starting Sept. 12.

Closing the ‘homework gap’ for our students

Posted by AT&T Arizona Team

closing the homework gap

Technology and learning go hand in hand. Unfortunately, not everyone has access to the internet at home, making it hard for kids to do homework and learn at their own pace and for families to stay up to date and connect with teachers.

That’s why The National PTA (Parent Teacher Association) and AT&T have teamed up to help close the “homework gap” and ensure SNAP-eligible families in select states1 have the resources they need for children to succeed in the classroom and beyond.

Through their collaboration, National PTA and AT&T will help qualifying families connect to low-cost internet service through Access from AT&T. The Access program offers those families a 10Mbps internet connection at home for $10 per month.2 You can visit ATT.com/Access for full details.

Together, the National PTA and AT&T will also teach parents how students are using digital technology in the classroom. Families will get tips about using technology and the internet to support their child's education at home. For example, the AT&T Digital You® portal includes English and Spanish language resources and tools for getting online, using technology safely, using online learning sites, job searching and more.

"Technology and the internet have created countless opportunities for teaching and learning. Having access to both is essential for students to develop the skills they need to be competitive," said Jim Accomando, president of National PTA. "Increasing internet access for families is critical to help make sure all students have every opportunity for success."

Carrying the Load in Arizona in support of our military

Posted by AT&T Arizona Team

Why I Carry The Load

Enjoying a day away from the office with a few hot dogs, cold drinks and a lot of sun makes for a great Memorial Day, but that isn’t exactly what the day is all about.

In 2003, AT&T employee Matt Foster left his family, friends and future wife for an active duty deployment in the United States Army. His Forward Operating Base (FOB) would often go on “Comms Blackout,” usually meaning a soldier on his FOB had been killed or seriously injured and their family was being officially notified.

It’s that experience that led him to get involved with Carry The Load. Carry The Load works to bring all Americans together to participate in honoring our nation’s heroes every day. This includes a national, 6,200-mile relay where veterans and citizens honor those heroes’ sacrifice and take a turn experiencing the weight of a rucksack. All of the money raised at this event goes directly to support Carry The Load’s Continuum of Care program where partner charities are on the front lines to help those heroes and their families who have given so much to this country.

At AT&T, we know our nation’s service men and women make sacrifices to protect our country and our freedoms. As a company, it is an honor to support them. As a sponsor of this year’s Carry the Load, AT&T is proud to stand behind participants this week in Arizona. Learn more about how to get involved and see the full relay route from coast to coast here.

AT&T to Deliver Nation’s First-Ever Public Safety Network

Posted by AT&T Arizona Team

There’s no connection more important than one that can save a life. During emergencies, lives depend on public safety personnel communicating without interruption. Unfortunately today, police, firefighters and emergency medical services personnel often lack the interoperable communications capabilities needed to coordinate and communicate across agencies and jurisdictions when disaster strikes.

That’s why FirstNet, an independent authority established by Congress in 2012, has just selected AT&T to build and manage America’s first-ever nationwide broadband network dedicated to first responders. This is a major step forward for public safety and for the broadband network our nation’s first responders have fought for and deserve.

The FirstNet network will strengthen and modernize public safety’s communications capabilities, enabling them to coordinate and respond more quickly and effectively during day-to-day operations, as well as man-made and natural disasters. The ability to share data, videos and photos — and to access apps — can provide life-saving insights even before emergency personnel arrive on the scene.

FirstNet

Our employees represent a nearly 140-year-old heritage of providing innovative, robust, resilient networking capabilities for first responders and public safety agencies. We look forward to collaborating with FirstNet and each of the 50 states, 5 U.S. territories and the District of Columbia to develop adoption plans specific to their needs.
