AT&T ACTIVATES TEXT-TO-DONATE CAMPAIGN FOR DISASTER RELIEF
MARIPOSA, CA, July 21, 2017 — To help those impacted by disasters like wildfires and countless other crises, including the Detwiler Wildfire in Mariposa County, CA, and other wildfires, AT&T1 has activated its Text-to-Donate Campaign. Wireless customers can make a $10 donation to American Red Cross Disaster Relief by texting REDCROSS to 90999 to help people affected by disasters big and small. Customers can text up to five times for a total donation of $50. AT&T won’t charge any fees for texting to donate. Customers will see their donation on their monthly AT&T bill. AT&T donates 100 percent of the proceeds to the American Red Cross.
AT&T continues to keep its Emergency Response Team deployed in Mariposa County to assist first responders, and members of the community who have evacuated from their homes due to the Detwiler Fire. AT&T’s mobile cell site called Satellite Cell on Light Truck (or Sat COLT) continues to run at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds to provide communications support at the Detwiler Fire Command Site. The location is hosting Cal Fire first responders, who are leading the Detwiler fire response.
AT&T’s Sat COLT provides cellular service in the deployment area, and is targeted to support those working in the command site to help keep communications flowing. As a self-contained mobile cell site, a Sat COLT can be quickly set up to replace lost capacity from a damaged permanent site, or as in this case, provide supplemental cellular capacity to an area experiencing an increase in demand. The deployment is being staffed by AT&T’s California Field Operations team members.
