AT&T CONTRIBUTES $50,000 TO SUPPORT ‘HACK THE HOOD’
Contribution Supports Bootcamps Serving Hundreds of Underserved Youth and Small Businesses in the Bay Area, Central Valley and Central Coast
OAKLAND, August 17, 2017 — AT&T made a $50,000 contribution to the Hack the Hood to support 8 Bootcamps training 225 underserved youth to build websites for real small businesses located in the Bay Area, Central Valley and Central Coast. The contribution is part of AT&T Aspire, the company’s signature philanthropic initiative and financial commitment of $400 million since 2008 to drive innovation in education and promote student success in school and beyond.

Hack the Hood Bootcamps introduce low-income youth of color to careers in tech by hiring and training them to build websites for real small businesses in their own communities. During the 6-week, full-time program, young people gain valuable hands-on experience, build a portfolio, and learn about opportunities in the tech industry. Small businesses work with a youth developer throughout the program to optimize or create a new website to help grow their business.

AT&T presented the contribution during a Hack the Hood Bootcamp graduation ceremony today in Oakland, where more than 40 youth completed the program and were honored by family, friends and civic and community leaders.
