The holiday season comes with a lot of good cheer, but also many distractions. AT&T New England wants to drive home the message that we are committed to your safety and remind everyone that distracted driving is never OK.
This month, our team has been out in communities around New England hosting IT CAN WAIT events to inform drivers about the dangers of distracted driving and to encourage them to stay safe on the road.
In Connecticut, we have continued our innovative partnership with the state’s Department of Transportation, which has brought our IT CAN WAIT message to thousands of high school students through interactive assemblies. In Vermont and Massachusetts, we hosted the IT CAN WAIT Virtual Reality Experience that uses state-of-the-art technology to put participants face-to-face with the very real consequences of distracted driving. And in Rhode Island, we marked the 100th IT CAN WAIT high school assembly in the state, reaching more than 30,000 students, culminating a 6-year partnership with Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Kilmartin.
AT&T research has found nearly 9-in-10 people admit to using their smartphone while driving. People are texting from behind the wheel — they’re checking email, accessing social media and even snapping photos. Nearly 4-in-10 people say that distracted driving is a habit. Sadly, this pattern of behavior has had deadly consequences far too many times.
