Atlanta, GA – Youth nonprofit organization, re:imagine/ATL is pleased to announce it has received a $50,000 contribution from AT&T. Committed to fostering innovation in education, AT&T is supporting re:imagine/ATL’s mission to empower the next generation of storytellers, creating a pipeline from schools to companies in the film and digital media industries. As part of this contribution, AT&T will become the presenting contributor of the re:imagine/ATL program, Currents, and a launch supporter of the re:imagine/ATL Alliance announced in March.
Currents is a free, monthly workshop in which high school students from across Atlanta learn a variety of industry skills relating to film and digital media directly from professionals in the field. Each workshop explores a different theme and skill set offering students a unique opportunity to be exposed to the many possible career paths while getting a jump start on training in a way that is both relevant and accessible. re:imagine/ATL Alliance supporters are committed to investing financially, and by offering, time, expertise, and resources. Their crucial investment will support Currents and other re:imagine/ATL programs that work to build a future workforce for the film digital media industry that truly represents the population of Metro Atlanta.
In addition to AT&T’s presenting contribution, Currents is in partnership with the Atlanta Film Society, a staple organization for filmmakers in Atlanta, established in 1976. Past themes of Currents have included animation, business skills for creatives, game design, and content distribution.
“Exposure to creative careers and professionals has allowed me to learn about all the different options and jobs in the creative industry,” said re:imagine/ATL student, Alexa Markfield. “It helped me to understand what I'm looking for in a career and what that career will actually be like, which has shaped my goals for the future.”
