The Michigan legislature is currently considering a bill that would clear the way for AT&T and other communications providers to invest in faster wireless service to greatly enhance the strength, capacity and reliability our network throughout the state.
SB 637 established standards for processes associated with the permitting, installation and maintenance of small cell devices in municipal rights-of-way. Once enacted, the streamlined processes will allow providers to rapidly invest in these infrastructure enhancements, benefiting consumers, businesses and communities throughout the state.
Unsurprisingly, the bill has received widespread support from a diverse group of organizations throughout the state including the Michigan Chamber of Commerce and chambers of commerce in Detroit, Grand Rapids, Saginaw and Northwest Michigan, local law enforcement officials and community groups that all recognize the benefits that come with investing in Michigan’s communications infrastructure.
SB 637 has already passed through the state Senate and now is before the State House for consideration.
