More than 100 AT&T employees are rolling up their sleeves to help those in need at Cass Community Social Services as part of AT&T’s Believe Detroit initiative.
Volunteers will spend the day building the memorial gardens, sponsored by AT&T, in the green space south of Cass Community Social Services’ Scott Building. The gardens will create a community area where those in need can grieve their deceased loved ones. The area will include solar lights, benches, a stained-glass privacy fence and 80 dwarf Alberta spruce trees. Later this summer, a fountain and seating will be added.

“AT&T is providing grieving Detroiters in need with a place to remember their loved ones, which will fill a void for many residents,” said Rev. Faith Fowler, executive director of Cass Community Social Services. “We are so grateful to AT&T for sponsoring this effort and to AT&T volunteers for working hard to make this project a reality.”
Cass Community Social Services (Cass) is a Detroit-based non-profit dedicated to making a profound difference in the lives of the diverse populations it services by providing for basic needs: food, housing, health/mental health care and jobs for people living in the areas of concentrated poverty in Detroit.
“Believe Detroit is about improving outcomes for Detroiters and our team is proud to be a part of this meaningful project,” said David Lewis, president of AT&T Michigan. “We hope these gardens will provide comfort to Detroiters in need as they work to get their lives on a path to self-sufficiency.”
Cass Community Social Services is one of the organizations AT&T is working with as part of its Believe Detroit initiative. Believe Detroit is an AT&T Michigan effort aiming to improve educational opportunities, academic achievement and create a path to self-sufficiency for Detroit youth. This program is an extension of AT&T Believes?, a larger company-wide initiative, which aims to create positive change in local communities.
