NPower

NPower is a nonprofit work training program that offers veterans and young adults from underserved communities the skills and coaching needed to jumpstart a career in technology.

AT&T contributed $65,000 to NPower to support another group of students in New Jersey this year.

In addition to technical training and preparation to earn in-demand industry certifications, NPower provides individual support in areas such as social services, professional networking and mentorship, job-placement assistance, and transit assistance. The program includes no-cost instruction and credentials.   In less than 6 months, students can learn the skills required to launch a career. 

New Jersey State Assembly Majority Whip Raj Mukherji, a Marine Corps veteran and technology entrepreneur, said when organizations like NPower and companies like AT&T work together, veterans win.

"Our veterans can bring many skills to civilian jobs – teamwork, leadership, discipline, and so much more.  Programs like NPower build on veterans’ unique skills and experiences with new technology skills they need to excel in new high-tech careers.  When organizations like NPower and companies like AT&T work together, our veterans – and the companies that hire them - win.”

“NPower has been helping military veterans and young adults since 2013, providing them with the critical tech skills needed to launch their own careers,” said Bea Tassot, Executive Director of NPower New Jersey. “We are thrilled with AT&T’s support and commitment to helping NPower close the technology skills gap that is already transforming lives in New Jersey.”

Althea Yancy, AT&T’s director of External Affairs in New Jersey, said the support is part of AT&T’s commitment to helping veterans transition to the civilian workforce.

“Over the years, we’ve put great emphasis on supporting our military veterans and their families, in part by increasing our outreach activities, supporting training programs, and showcasing career opportunities,” Yancy said.  “By working with groups like NPower, we can enable those who served our country prepare for success in new tech careers.”

Including today’s announcement, AT&T has contributed $95,000 to NPower to support programs in Jersey City since 2017.

NPower New Jersey training programs focus on technology education and professional skills development to prepare students to begin careers in the field of information technology in as little as 23 weeks. More than 80 percent of NPower graduates are employed full-time or enrolled in higher education within one year of completing the program. Students also have an opportunity to earn IT Generalist Apprenticeship credentials from the U.S. Department of Labor.

During the special event, which was held at AT&T’s store in Newport Centre in Jersey City, company officials also highlighted a new, first-of-its-kind online safety pilot program that was launched in the greater New York City area after a new study found children and teens are spending more time than ever online and on their mobile devices – and engaging in risky behaviors without their parents’ knowledge. This program called ScreenReady?, is an extension of AT&T Believes?, a larger company-wide initiative that aims to create positive change in local communities.
