AT&T is Now Offering Fixed Wireless Internet Service to Rural Portions of 18 States, Including Parts of 51 Counties Across Tennessee
AT&T* Fixed Wireless Internet1 for rural and underserved locations is now available to residents and small businesses in parts of Benton and Henry counties, including Big Sandy, Camden, Holladay and Paris.
This rollout, now in 18 states, began in 2017. The company now offers Fixed Wireless Internet to over 440,000 locations across 18 states with plans to provide access to over 1.1 million locations by the end of 2020.
“This is a good day for residents in Benton and Henry counties as this innovative new service brings high-speed connectivity to more rural families and small businesses,” said State Senator John Stevens. “We have work that remains to be done, and I will continue to work with my colleagues and private industry to continue bringing access to high-speed Internet to rural Tennessee.”
“Our residents and business-owners have made their voices heard, and my colleagues and I are working hard to create an environment where we will see more announcements like this – more announcements that infrastructure is being deployed to extend access to high-speed Internet to families across our community,” said State Representative Tim Wirgau.
Fixed Wireless Internet service delivers an internet connection with download speeds of at least 10Mbps and upload speeds of at least 1Mbps. The connection comes from a wireless tower to a fixed antenna on a customer’s home or business. This is an efficient way to deliver high-quality, high-speed internet to customers living in underserved rural areas.
The towers used to provide this service are connected to AT&T’s network using AT&T fiber optics. AT&T has more than 2.3 million strand miles of AT&T fiber optics covering Tennessee, which enables the company to offer a wide variety of products and services delivering the high-speed connectivity Tennessee businesses and residents need.
“AT&T is proud to work with our local, state and federal leadership to provide the connectivity Tennessee’s residents and businesses demand,” said AT&T Tennessee Director of External Affairs Dennis Wagner. “Through this new AT&T service, we are helping close the remaining connectivity gap in our state.”
In addition to Tennessee, the service is available to residents and businesses in parts of Alabama, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas and Wisconsin.
1Includes 170GB data allowance per month. Req’s installation of AT&T outdoor antenna & indoor Residential Gateway. $10/50GB of additional data up to a max of $200/mo.
