AT&T is Now Offering Fixed Wireless Internet Service to Rural Portions of 18 States, Including More than 37,000 Locations in Parts of 51 Counties Across Tennessee
Dickson, Tn., Aug. 7, 2018 – AT&T* Fixed Wireless Internet1 for rural and underserved locations is now available to residents and small businesses in parts of Dickson County, including the city of Charlotte.
This rollout, now in 18 states, began in 2017. The company now offers Fixed Wireless Internet to over 440,000 locations across 18 states with plans to provide access to over 1.1 million locations by the end of 2020.
“Dickson County is an incredible place to raise a family and run a business,” said Senator Kerry Roberts. “We must have a 21st Century infrastructure to keep it that way, and access to high-speed Internet is key. I applaud AT&T for their continued investment and work to enhance high-speed connectivity for residents and businesses in rural Tennessee.”
“This is a great day for Middle Tennessee,” said Representative Michael Curcio. “In today’s world, high-speed connectivity is vital to our workforce and economy. I’m excited to see the investment and growing interest in bringing enhanced connectivity to our rural Tennessee communities.”
“My colleagues and I in the legislature have worked hard to create an environment that encourages the deployment of high-speed connectivity, particularly in rural Tennessee, so I am pleased to see this innovative service coming to Dickson County,” said Representative Mary Littleton
Fixed Wireless Internet service delivers an internet connection with download speeds of at least 10Mbps and upload speeds of at least 1Mbps. The connection comes from a wireless tower to a fixed antenna on a customer’s home or business. This is an efficient way to deliver high-quality, high-speed internet to customers living in underserved rural areas.
More than 37,000 customer locations in the following 51 Tennessee Counties are now eligible for AT&T Fixed Wireless Internet: Bedford, Benton, Blount, Campbell, Carroll, Cheatham, Chester, Cocke, Cumberland, Dickson, Dyer, Fayette, Franklin, Gibson, Giles, Hamblen, Hardeman, Hardin, Hawkins, Haywood, Henderson, Henry, Hickman, Humphreys, Jefferson, Lauderdale, Lewis, Lincoln, Loudon, Madison, Marion, Marshall, Maury, McMinn, McNairy, Meigs, Monroe, Montgomery, Moore, Morgan, Obion, Rhea, Roane, Robertson, Sevier, Smith, Stewart, Trousdale, Union, Williamson and Wilson.
The towers used to provide this service are connected to AT&T’s network using AT&T fiber optics. AT&T has more than 2.3 million strand miles of AT&T fiber optics covering Tennessee, which enables the company to offer a wide variety of products and services delivering the high-speed connectivity Tennessee businesses and residents need.
“AT&T is proud to work with our local, state and federal leadership to provide the connectivity Tennessee’s residents and businesses demand,” said AT&T Tennessee Regional Director of External and Legislative Affairs Kathy Sager. “Through this new AT&T service, we are helping close the remaining connectivity gap in our state.”
In addition to Tennessee, the service is available to residents and businesses in parts of Alabama, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas and Wisconsin.
